The Antieau Gallery in New Orleans has invited us to come down and show portraits of criminals, athletes and musicians. We're delighted for the opportunity to display work alongside that of Chris Roberts-Antieau. Opening night is Saturday August 13 (Dirty Linen Night). If you're in the neighborhood...
Mr. B is blues and boogie woogie pianist Mark Lincoln Braun. The Joybox Express is a project he has spearheaded to raise funds for children's sports, music and arts programs. In short, he has a piano bike, which consists of a piano (the Joybox) mounted on a platform, that has two bikers pushing and one (Mr. B) pulling.
Over the last several summers the Joybox Express has travelled across the lower part of the State of Michigan, from Saugatuck to Detroit, stopping along the weeklong journey to play music for anyone they encounter. If you are not familiar with the project or with Mr. B, please know that the music played is high-caliber blues and boogie woogie, the kind that you will not hear unless you have some great vinyl recordings, or if you frequent the less commercial, local club circuits in New Orleans and other cities that still support this incredibly original American music.
This fall, with the help of Artrain, Mr. B's Joybox Express will embark on an ambitious 90-day ride, and travel the length of the Mississippi River. Starting in Minnesota, they'll make their way south to the city of New Orleans. They will be raising money, playing music, and pedaling their asses off the entire way.
Rarely in our busy lives do we get to participate in an unconventional, ambitious and soulful endeavor like this one. Here's your chance. You can support this effort by visiting joyboxexpress.com and donating to the cause.
