On Sunday, March 18th, the Chelsea Chamber Players will perform Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. This family concert starts at 3:00pm in the historic Chelsea Depot in downtown Chelsea. It's another in a long line of memorable concerts that the CCP has presented to our community over the years, and we're always pleased to have an opportunity to help promote them.
If you've never heard the music of Philip Glass played live, here's your chance. Leave it to the Chelsea Chamber Players to perform his work along with pieces by Haydn and Schumann. Sunday September 24, 7pm at the Chelsea Depot. What's that? Not into classical music you say? Life's too short to binge watch violent sex and sexualized violence. Take a break from your devices and listen to some real pros play theirs. P.S., we designed the poster.
11 x 17 Stormie poster
On Sunday March 19, the Chelsea Chamber Players will perform the debut of Stormie: A Cinderella Story at the Chelsea Depot. Written by Ann Brill with a score by Brian Brill, this family concert couples an Irish folktale with music that will please young and old alike, as they say. Fifteen plus years and counting of posters; we always enjoy collaborating with the Chelsea Chamber Players.
Poster design for piano impresario Mark Lincoln Braun (Mr.B). Each year he hosts blues and boogie boogie piano talent for a weekend of world class music. Friday April 22 at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Saturday April 23 at The Ark in Ann Arbor. This year's lineup features Bob Seeley, Chris Codish and Robert Moore. The Detroit-based talent pool inspired this year's poster design. These hand-printed posters will be for sale at both events.
Thumbelina poster detail
The Chelsea Chamber Players are at it again with a retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen tale Thumbelina. Composer Brian Brill and writer Ann Brill have teamed up to set the classic story to music, which will be performed by The CCP on March 20 at 3:00 pm in the Chelsea Depot. The poster design kicks off the fifteenth (or is it the sixteenth?!?) year of our collaboration with the Chelsea Chamber Players.
The Chelsea Chamber Players are a string quartet that play classical music. Beautifully. You would be hard-pressed to find a more talented bunch performing for free. Their quarterly concerts are presented in the quaint, yet surprisingly resonant Chelsea Depot. If you have never had the chance to sit a few feet from world-class musicians as they ply their trade, here's your opportunity. This poster serves as an announcement for their 7pm show on Sunday, September 28.
Over the last several years, whenever a French Paper Company poster was unfurled or presented to me, I snatched them up and tucked them away. I have worked in design studios and an ad agency that got regular mailings or visits from paper reps, so there's been a fairly constant flow of these beautifully designed posters available to me. Well, they were available anyway, maybe not to me exclusively, but I've got them now.
While I was doing freelance design work for Neal Zimmermann and Michael Allen at Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco, we received a wonderful sample package from Charles Spencer Anderson that may have been the source for some of the really early posters that he designed, quite possibly from his time at Duffy Design in Minneapolis. Incidentally, along with the print samples, CSA also sent an ice-packed box with several gallons of ice-cream (he had designed the packaging)--- what an unexpected treat. I don't know why he didn't get LS&Co work at the time, he certainly wasn't under qualified.
Below are the posters I have. It was raining here on Friday so I wasn't able to shoot these outdoors, which I would've done normally, so please forgive the carpeting background and the unprofessional presentation. That being said, it's a tribute to the design quality of these pieces that even my bad photos can't detract from the high-level design.
